DMZ Tour

I love the smell of napalm in the morning!! And right The Bridge over the river that used to seperate North and South Vietnam
Whilst in Hue we took a bus tour to the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ). We visited Khe Sanh military base where 10,000 people lost their lives. There was not much to see here but there was a museum explaining the history of the Vietnam War and the local area but the most striking thing was the lack of old vegetation and bomb craters. None of the trees are more than 20 years old which gives the area a feeling that just benefited from landscaping exercises. (They don't need Groundwork here!!!!)
On the trip we also visited the Ho Chi Min trail which was the route that arms where transported from the North of Vietnam to the South. The most sobering visit however was to the Vinh Moc tunnels where 2000 Vietnamese people lived from 1966-1972 whilst the area was being carpet bombed by American troops. People were self sufficient underground; there were schools, dormitories, meeting rooms and even a maternity ward for the babies who were born there.
