Vang Vieng

Topic: The one were..........
Well after yet another eventful bus journey (bus broke down twice)from Vientiane we arrived in Vang Vieng. Its a strange little town in the middle of nowhere...half way between Vientiane and Luang Prabang. The town feels very artificial but this could have something to do with the fact that its sole purpose, from what we could see was to provide a service to backpackers. There are a couple of bars in particular which were very strange. They play episodes of "Friends" from 9 in the morning till midnight...(you know the one where Joey went tubing in Vang Vieng!!!!)

We met some great girls...Fiona, Caroline and Mary on the way up on the bus and we were inseparable for 3 days.

To celebrate Mary's 30th birthday we all went white water kayaking and caving which was great fun. It was very hard work but we all had a sense of achievement when we finished. Our group encountered 2 sinking boats...one of them mine and Den's but the guides were like members of the A Team and patched the hole up by melting a water bottle over the hole. We also went tubing in the cave...this is when you sit on an inner tube of a car tyre and bob along in the dark.

The scenery in Vang Vieng was just fantastic. It even rivals New Zealand.

Over the 4 days we did lots of partying and we left Caroline and Fiona to head to Luang Prabang. To be honest we needed a break...not from them ;0) but from the night life...... oh and.... Friends!!!!!!! (joey etc!!!)
