Finally.....we've made it to Chile

Monday, 23 May 2005

Mood: crushed out
Well, after an extra 4 days in Bariloche we've finally made it over the Chilean Boarder. After a 30 hour bus ride and a night in as illegal immigrants in Argentina (we got our passports stamped out in Argentina - only to be trapped in no mans land as the Chilean border closed) we finally made it over the Chilean Border.

Some of our fellow travellers

The snow came early this year and caught a lot of people unaware. 95 Chilean soldiers were caught in the snowfall and a number (25 at present count) did not survive. We were unaware of this situation and put the long waits down to 'a go slow' at the border crossing. This was until we arrived in Chile and all the flags were at half mast and most public buildings were closed.

Unfortunately we are only staying in Chile for 2 days and are catching yet another long haul bus journey to Santiago tonight.

We fly to New Zealand on Wednesday which sadly will mean the end of our South America trip.

3 things we will miss about South America
"Cocky street dogs"
"Bueno"
"£4 a night hotels - with en suite bathroom"

........and 3 things we won't!!!!
"Not being able to flush loo roll"
"Ham and cheese sandwiches"
"White Toyota Corollas (Bolivia)"
